Revenge of the Savage Planet: Capturable Creature Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Capturable Creatures in Revenge of the Savage Planet are the 36 species you can lasso with the Proton Whip and research at your Habitat for suit upgrades, weapon mods, gadgets, and outfit colour palettes.

Captured creatures physically live in your Habitat's pens afterward — visitable, viewable, and pettable via a dedicated animation. Every species, its exact spawn, and its specific stagger tactic are documented on Map Master's Revenge of the Savage Planet interactive maps.

How Capturing Works

Unlock the Proton Whip during the My First Rodeo story Mission, then hold the melee button to spin the lasso and release it at a target. Small, docile species — Puffer Fox, Bonefly, Lavacon — can be lassoed directly.

Larger or aggressive species must be staggered first by shooting their weak spot, revealed by scanning them and confirmed by a distinct bell "ding" on a successful hit.

Two settings make this dramatically easier: Snap Targeting (auto-locks your crosshair onto the weak spot) and the combat survey scan, which highlights the weak spot mid-fight for any previously scanned species.

Two Achievements, One System

  • It's Needlessly Complex — stagger and capture any creature. Unmissable once the whip is in hand.

  • In the Bag — capture the Hognork during the Come Over Here mission in Cliffs of Abaddoon. Its weak spot is the roof of its mouth, only exposed when it roars — bait the roar, shoot the palate, lasso while dazed. A respawning Hognork remains at the same spot for repeat captures.

Research: 1–6 Minutes of Real Time Per Creature

Every captured species can be researched at the Habitat computer, taking one to six real-time minutes depending on creature size.

Every single species unlocks a new colour scheme applied across all four outfit gear pieces at once, while key species unlock gadgets and upgrade blueprints — several of the game's most important traversal tools are gated behind specific creature research, including the Whip Tether (Hognork) and the Blight Bomb Stabilizer (Alpha Sluggator, found through a weak floor at Savannah Lake).

The Trickiest Captures

  • Grab Grub (Pillars of Turpitude) — the only species with an extra capture mechanic. It burrows mid-lasso; stop pulling until it resurfaces or the capture fails entirely.

  • Desert Eraffe — weak spot is a small target behind the head, and it bolts after the first hit. Two accurate shots are needed.

  • Arffalo (Quasadron IX Crash Site) — requires jumping and stomping on its back before the weak spot even becomes shootable.

  • Alpha variants — seven rare S-rank creatures including Alpha Raccocco (Slarragon Forest), Alpha Vaperon (spawns only after clearing all creatures on and around its hill), Alpha Toxwin (Summit of Ruin), and Alpha Sluggator. Toxwins start friendly — land the first belly shots during the brief neutral window before they aggro.

What Can't Be Captured

Tiny critters (Mantis, Kiwi Slug) die instantly on contact with the whip. Bosses, space whales, and hazardous plants can't be captured at all.

The whip doesn't function underwater, ruling out aquatic species. And the hybrid variants inside Interstellar Enigma shrines can be scanned but never lassoed. None of these count against the 36-species total.

A Practical Capture Tip

Isolate before you lasso. Any interruption — a stray hit from a nearby hostile, terrain snag, or aggroed packmate — resets the capture entirely.

Clearing or kiting away surrounding creatures first, then taking high ground (most species can't jump), turns even S-rank captures into routine pulls.
